Suspect Hijacks Police Vehicle During Narcotics Investigation

 

ODESSA, TX — A suspect hijacked an Odessa Police Department vehicle while officers investigated an abandoned vehicle.

According to CBS7, on Thursday evening officers were conducting a narcotics investigation when the suspect evaded them in a dark-colored SUV.

Officers later located the vehicle and it appeared to be stalled. As officers searched the area, the suspect then stole the police vehicle and fled the scene.

The suspect and the OPD vehicle were soon located at W. 18th St and Moss Ave. Before the suspect was taken into custody officers fired their weapons. Details regarding the circumstances that led the officers to shoot their guns have not been released.

Authorities have not released the name of the suspect and it is unclear if anyone was injured.

The investigation has been turned over to the Texas Rangers.
