San Angelo Woman Indicted for Pulling a Knife on a Family Dollar Store Employee

SAN ANGELO, TX — 54-year-old Yolanda Garcia Sanchez (AKA McGowan) was indicted by a Tom Green County Grand Jury on June 18 on the charge of Aggravated Assault with Deadly Weapon in relation to a violent altercation at a local Family Dollar Store on the afternoon of April 24.

As previously reported, an officer with the San Angelo Police  Department was dispatched to the Family Dollar Store located at 3013 North Chadbourne Street following the report of an assault.

While en route, the officer learned that a female suspect assaulted an employee, but was no longer at the store.

As the investigation continued, it was learned that Yolanda Sanchez, the defendant,  was previously inside the store causing a disturbance by knocking several items off the shelves.

As store personnel confronted Sanchez, she became very combative and even attacked an employee.

At one point during the encounter, Sanchez pulled a knife from her purse, advanced forward, and even made contact with the employee while making several threatening statements.

The employee, a 29-year-old woman was not injured, but authorities noted there was a hole in the shirt of the victim consistent with that from a knife.

Sanchez was later located and detained in the 100 block of South Emerick Street with assistance from City Marshals.

During her apprehension, Sanchez became extremely uncooperative, increasingly agitated, and at one point attempted to assault a San Angelo Police Officer.

On June 18, Yolanda Garcia Sanchez-McGowan was indicted on the sole charge of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon which is a second degree felony in the state of Texas that carries a penalty of two to twenty years in prison, including a fine of up to $10,000.
