SAN ANGELO, TX – On June 18, 2020, a Tom Green County Grand Jury indicted 41-year-old Jose Luis Alvarez Jr on two charges including manufacture and delivery of meth and heroin.
On the morning of April 29, an officer with the San Angelo Police Department initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle after it was confirmed the vehicle had no active insurance.
During the traffic stop the officer noticed a marijuana cigarette behind the left ear of the driver as he asked for the driver's identification.
Shortly after the suspect, identified as Jose Alvarez Jr, was removed from the vehicle and a search was conducted of his personal belongings and vehicle.
On the floorboard of the vehicle, a small baggie was found with a crystal like substance as well as another small bag of a "black tar" substance.
Both substances were tested at the scene, the white crystal substance tested positive for methamphetamine and the black tar substance tested positive for heroin.
According to the indictment reports, the substance identified as heroin weighed 1.5 grams including packaging, and the methamphetamine weighed 6.4 grams including packaging.
Alvarez was immediately arrested at the scene for the possession of a controlled substance, and was booked into the Tom Green County Jail shortly after 2:00 a.m. where he was held on charges that carried roughly $75,000.00 in Bond.
Later that same day Jose Alvarez was released from the TGCJ after posting the $75,000.00 in bond.
On June 18, Jose Luis Alvarez Jr was indicted by a Tom Green County Grand Jury on two counts including the manufacturing and delivery of controlled substances namely heroin and methamphetamine.
Due to Alvarez track record with local authorities including two prior felony convictions from February of 2003 and January of 2015, Alvarez current two charges regarding the manufacturing and delivery of controlled substances were elevated by a district attorney.
Following his indictment in June, an expected jury trial has been scheduled for Alvarez on December 14, 2020.
