AUSTIN, TX – The Austin Police Department has announced Thursday that they will no longer be enforcing class a and class b misdemeanor marijuana offenses.
According to KXAN, on July 2, the Austin Police Department announced that they will no longer cite or arrest individuals with sufficient identification for Class A or Class B misdemeanor “possession of marijuana” offenses, unless there is an immediate threat to a person’s safety or doing so as part of the investigation of a high priority, felony-level narcotics case or the investigation of a violent felony.”
This is coming after Austin City Council passed a resolution in January asking APD to eliminate arrests unless they feel there is a threat of personal safety.
A Class B misdemeanor in Texas for possession of Marijuana is any amount under two ounces.
A Class A misdemeanor in Texas for possession of Marijuana is any amount between two and four ounces.
