Man Arrested After Allegedly Setting Mattress on Fire

SAN ANGELO, TX – A San Angelo man was arrested Friday after police say he lit a mattress on fire in his apartment complex.

According to the affidavit, on May 29, officers with the San Angelo Police Department were dispatched to the Capri Apartments for the report of a domestic disturbance.

When officers arrived they found that a mattress had been set on fire inside of the apartment. Police spoke with a female resident of the apartment who told them that she had been assaulted by 40-year-old Jose Sanchez.

During the assault is when Sanchez allegedly set the mattress on fire. The affidavit states that Sanchez set their mattress on fire inside the apartment and was reckless about whether the burning or explosion would endanger the life of some individual or the safety of the property "The Capri Apartment."

Sanchez was then arrested and charged with assault that caused bodily injury to a family member, arson of a building/habitat/vehicle, resisting arrest, and eight MISC CPF. His bond is set at $18,000.
