Suspects Hides Car Under Tarp After Evading Police

ABILENE, TX – Abilene Police officers have arrested a suspect after he led them on a high-speed chase and then tried to hide his car under a tarp.

According to KTXS, police attempted to conduct a traffic stop at N 17th and Victoria streets on Wednesday after they recognized the driver as a suspect who had an outstanding warrant.

The driver, identified as Chris Martinez, did not stop when directed by police and fled from officers at  “high rates of speed” while running stop signs.

The chase was called off for safety reasons so APD sent out a description of a vehicle and the driver to all officers.

Other APD officers spotted Martinez placing a tarp over his vehicle in an attempt to hide it and he was arrested.

Martinez had outstanding warrants for the following items:

  • possession of cocaine
  • possession of meth
  • evading arrest (4 counts)
  • theft of aluminum
  • assault family violence

Martinez was charged with evading arrest and tampering with evidence and his bond was set at $50,500.
