FBI: Sam's Club Stabbing Declared A Hate Crime

MIDLAND, TX – Two weeks after a 19-year-old Jose Gomez stabbed two members of a Chinese-American family and an employee at a local Sam’s Club, the FBI had decided to declare the incident a hate crime.

According to CBS7, the suspect told authorities that he “stabbed the family because he thought the family was Chinese, and infecting people with the coronavirus."

Hate crimes against Asian Americans continue to escalate as the coronavirus pandemic continues to spread.

"The FBI assesses hate crime incidents against Asian Americans likely will surge across the United States, due to the spread of coronavirus disease … endangering Asian American communities."

The suspect told police he was attempting to kill the family. The father and son have extensive cuts across their faces. The young boy has a cut from behind his ear to his eye. The Sam’s Club worker that tried to stop the attack was stabbed in the leg and his hand was cut up in the struggle.

Gomez is being charged with three counts of attempted capital murder and one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

I'm not saying it's right, but I can say I understand. This person definitely has some mentally deficiencies, but I think many people are likely sharing the sentiments at the present time. Probably ought to stay home if you're Asian for the time being. Again, I'm not saying its right, but there is obviously people out there willing to harm people over this whole thing. Stay safe everyone.
