Grand Jury Indicts Grape Creek Man For Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer

SAN ANGELO, TX – A Grape Creek man has been indicted for Aggravated Assault Against a Public Servant after an altercation in late November, 2019. According to the report on Sept. 29, 2019 Deputy Rook with the Tom Green County Sheriffs Department was dispatched to the Grape Creek area after reports of a man carrying a shotgun in the roadway stating that he was going to kill everyone in the neighborhood. While responding to the call the  Deputy Rook was notified that the man had discharged the firearm in the middle of the roadway.

When Deputies arrived on scene they found James Gordon Padier sitting in the road with a black 12 gauge shotgun sitting in his lap. Deputy Rook instructed Padier to put his hands in the air. The defendant immediately raised the shotgun over his shoulder before tossing it aside. Deputy Rook was then able to subdue the defendant with the assistance of another deputy.

After being handcuffed Padier attempted to remove a black semi-automatic .380 pistol from a holster on his body. Following apprehension Deputy Rook located and removed the pistol, a knife, a sword, and even a crossbow that were strapped to the defendant. While apprehended Gordon actively resisted arrest by attempting to bite, kick and pull-away from Deputies.

After further investigation Deputies located a 12 gauge buck shot shell that failed to chamber correctly, meaning that Padier attempted to shoot but the shell did not discharge.

As of March 5 the defendant was indicted on the sole charge of Aggravated Assault Against a Public Servant.  James Padier is currently sitting in the Tom Green County Jail awaiting a pre-trial hearing set for May 5, 2020.
