Details Emerge About Woman Who Died After Being Starved and Locked in a Closet

MIDLAND, TX – New information regarding the death of an abused woman has been released by Midland authorities. The information accuses the woman's boyfriend of locking her in a closet and starving her.

As previously reported, on Feb. 15, a woman who had been taken to the Midland Memorial ER with serious injuries that were sustained from criminal neglect died after nearly a month in the hospital. Here is the original story: Suspect Charged After Abused Woman Dies in the Hospital

CBS 7 has released the name of the suspect and the victim. According to the affidavit, officers with the Midland Police Department spoke to a nurse who treated Nathishia Grimes. She claimed that Grimes was very dirty, especially around her mouth. She said her first impression of Grimes was that she was dying.

Grimes told hospital staff that she weighed 130 lbs but when they weighed her she only weighed 93 lbs. When asked about why she was in the state she was, Grimes kept changing stories on the last time she ate or even walked.

During the visit, Grimes was with Tony Jeffery Green. Green told staff that Grimes had quit walking two or three months ago for no reason at all. Green's family later told staff that they had not seen Grimes for months.

Once away from Green, Grimes admitted that Green had been abusing her and held her against her will. She claimed that Green would keep her locked in a closet. While being locked in the closet Grimes was not given food. She told staff that she couldn't remember the last time she had eaten but it could've been as far back as Christmas or Thanksgiving.

Grimes was admitted to the hospital on Jan. 22 and died almost three weeks later.

Based on what the nurse told the officer, a warrant was issued for Green. He was arrested and charged with criminally negligent homicide.
