Woman Indicted on Arson Charge for Setting a House on Fire

CHRISTOVAL, TX – A Christoval woman has been indicted for arson in connection with a house fire in Christoval in Dec. 2019.

According to court documents, on the evening of Dec. 29th, 2019 the Christoval Volunteer fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire near the intersection of Jackson and 8th St shortly after 12:00 a.m in Christoval. As deputies arrived on scene they noted that the southernmost point of the residence was fully engulfed in flames, and after speaking with the suspect, Anabel Grace Bruton, deputies learned that Bruton was the only one inside the residence at the time of the fire. Shortly after the Christoval Fire Department arrived on scene and began to extinguish the fire.

At approximately 12:43 a.m. Deputy Hanusch with the Tom Green County Sheriffs Office was approached by an individual with the Christoval Volunteer Fire Department who stated that she needed to show him a video on Snapchat in regards to the fire that evening. In the video Deputy Hanusch observed a fire on the floor of the residence, and the defendant standing in what would be confirmed as the master bedroom stating "You finally get to see the chaos you caused, I f--king hate you!".

Despite the fire being extinguished a majority of the residence was destroyed in the fire that was intentionally set by Bruton after a fallout with her boyfriend at the time. Bruton was arrested later that evening and booked into the Tom Green County Jail. She is charged with arson which is a Second Degree Felony that carries a penalty of 2-20 years, and fines up to $10,000.00.

Bruton was indicted on the arson charge in Feb. 2020.
