2-Year-Old Flown to Fort Worth Hospital After Being Struck By Man on Meth

BROWNWOOD, TX – The Brownwood Police Department arrested a 33-year-old man for assaulting a small child while in possession of meth and marijuana last week.

According to the Brownwood Bulletin, on February 19, officers with the Brownwood Police Department were dispatched a convenience store in the 3800 block of U.S. Highway 377 South on a report of an unresponsive baby.

When the officers arrived they found 2-year-old that was being cared for by his mother for serious head trauma. The toddler was immediately taken to the Brownwood Regional Medical Center emergency room but was later flown to the Cook Children's Medical Center in Fort Worth for treatment for the head trauma.

Further investigation revealed to the officers that the mother's roommate was watching the child while the mother was at work. At around 5 a.m. that morning, Zachary Huber, 33, was the person that delivered the child to the mother at her work, the convenience store.

Detectives with the Brownwood police went to the man's home and met with Huber. During the interview, they found a small green baggy that contained marijuana and methamphetamine. He was arrested that day and booked into the Brown County Jail for possession of a controlled substance as well as possession of marijuana.

Then on February 25 the Huber received another charge for aggravated injury to a child with intent to cause serious bodily injury. This charge happened when Huber “admitted to portions of the incident which included striking the child,” said the Brownwood Police Department.

His full charges include aggravated injury to a child with intent to cause serious bodily injury possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana, as well as traffic charges. His bond is set at $150,000.
