INDICTMENT: Car Thief Smelled Out By SAPD K-9 Unit in Scrap Yard

SAN ANGELO, TX – A Tom Green County Grand Jury indicted a San Angelo man during the month of January after officers say he stole a car and then ran from them.

A grand jury indicted John Ray Enriquez, 33, for two counts of evading arrest with a vehicle and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

The indictment came after Enriquez was arrested for the charges in November of 2019.

As previously reported, on November 16, officers located a stolen vehicle that they had been searching for at the intersection of 7th and Buchanan. Here is the story: SAPD Catches Car Thief Thanks to K-9 Vader

As officers were approaching the stolen vehicle, the vehicle's driver decided to take off running.

He fled into the Acme Iron scrap yard in hopes to hide from the police.

SAPD called in their K-9 Vader who quickly found the man. "His hiding skills were no match for Vader's tracking skills," said SAPD's Facebook.

After Vader smelled out the man, he was detained and identified as 33-year-old John Enriquez.

Enriquez remains in the Tom Green County Jail as of February 14. His bond is set at $22,500.

His initial pretrial is scheduled for April 7 at 2:00 p.m.
