Border Agents Find Marijuana Smuggled Inside Soccer Ball

EAGLE PASS, TX – Border Patrol agents in Eagle Pass found a backpack on November 14th that had a 1.98 pounds of marijuana hidden inside a soccer ball.

The backpack was discovered by an agent conducting linewatch operations. The agent heard a loud noise coming from outside a service vehicle and in a search of the area agents discovered the backpack. The soccer ball inside the backpack appeared to be tampered with and during an inspection authorities found the marijuana. The nearly two pounds of marijuana have an estimated worth of $962.73.

“Smugglers use a wide array of concealment methods,” said Del Rio Sector Chief Patrol Agent Raul L. Ortiz. “In this case, the contraband was hidden inside a toy that could have potentially caused a tragedy if a child had encountered it.  Thankfully, our agents vigilance and rapid response prevented any harm from reaching our community.”
