19-Year-Old Male Shot in the Neck Friday Night

ABILENE, TX – Caleb Hemwall, 19, was shot in the neck after an argument over a drug exchange at the Timber Ridge Apartments on Friday night.

According to KTXS, when police responded to the scene, they “located a 19-year-old male who had been struck in the neck by a single round."

His family told local media on Sunday that the next few hours were crucial and that Caleb was on a breathing tube, but doctors were "trying to ease him off of it.”

Caleb was described as ‘critical, but in stable condition’ after the bullet came within inches of hitting his spinal cord. He is not able to move or feel most of his body because the swelling is putting pressure on his spinal cord. Caleb’s family told KTXS that he has regained some feeling and movement in his right arm. He is currently being treated at a Fort Worth hospital.

As of Sunday, APD had not made any arrests in connection to the shooting.

Caleb’s family has set up a Gofund Me page to help pay for his medical bills. His father told local media that Caleb does not have health insurance.
