UPDATE: SAPD Uses K-9 to Sniff Out Stolen Guns Ditched Near the River

 

SAN ANGELO, TX -- The San Angelo Police Department used their K-9 Xander yesterday to find the stolen weapons that were hidden on the banks of the Concho River. 

According to SAPD, Yesterday afternoon, San Angelo Police were dispatched to the area of South David and West Washington for the report of a man armed with a long gun. After obtaining the man’s description and direction of travel from witnesses, a Patrol Officer located the subject near a picnic table at Spanish Park. The subject was holding a handgun.

After the officer tried to talk the the man, he quickly ran underneath the Abe st bridge and through the river banks. 

Officers later caught up to him across the street from the visitors center on the 600 block of South Abe. After detaining him, officers identified him as 18-year-old Robert Clark. 

SAPD's Motor and K-9 Units were called to the scene where they quickly located the handgun and a shotgun. They found the weapons hidden in the bushes on the banks of the river. 

Clark was then arrested and charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon and evading arrest. 

During the follow-up investigation, officers heard a call for service regarding a burglary of a residence in the 1300 block of South David Street where two firearms were stolen. Subsequent to the burglary investigation it was discovered the seized firearms were obtained during that burglary. 

He now is also facing a charge of Burglary of a Habitation which is a second degree felony. 

He is currently in the Tom Green County Jail and his bond is set at $51,000.
