Accused Allsup's Armed Robber Indicted on Multiple Charges

SAN ANGELO, TX -- The man who is accused of robbing the Allsup's on Arden rd. has been indicted on multiple charges including stealing cars and armed robbery

On May 28, the San Angelo Police Department were dispatched to the Allsup's on Arden for the report of a robbery. When Police arrived they met with the clerk William Nelson about what had occurred that night.

Nelson told police that a man had walked into the store and attempted to purchase multiple items. He tried to use a debit card but it was declined. After the card was declined the man hung around the convenience store until Nelson asked him to leave.

The man left but returned with a pistol to rob the Allsup's. According to the affidavit, he went inside, pointed the gun at Nelson, and demanded all of the money in the register.

Police then looked at the surveillance video and received multiple still pictures of the man dressed in a brown jacket with an orange beanie. Police investigated and found that the man lived at the nearby Arden Arms Apartment. They then spoke with the manager and asked if she had ever seen the man. She told them that his name was Zachary Lucero, 23, a resident that she had troubles with in the past. She told police that she recently dealt with an incident where Lucero threatened a maintenance man with a gun.

The detectives went to Lucero's apartment and instantly found drug paraphernalia and a bag that contained methamphetamine. He was then placed under arrest and questioned about what happened that night. Lucero admitted to being at the Allsup's and always carrying a gun on him, but he said that no crime was committed there by him that night.

Police then looked back on a different robbery that could have involved Lucero.

On May 15, San Angelo Police Department was dispatched to the Weinerschnitzel on S Bryant for burglary that had occurred. Police received still photos of the man that broke into the restaurant.

In the photos it depicts a man with brown shoes and a gloves with writing on the outside of the glove. In Lucero's apartment police found brown shoes with the same design and a glove that had similar writing to the photos. According to the affidavit, Lucero was recently fired from Weinerschnitzel and refused to give back his keys.

Lucero told police that he did take $682 from the restaurant to pay rent he owed. He said that he used the key to get inside. The security system was not on when he arrived but he set it when before leaving.

After getting a confession on this case they continued to ask about another crime he may have committed. On May 25, SAPD received a call about a stolen vehicle.

When they arrived, they met with the victim who was working at Pizza Hut. He said he has just arrived to work when his co-worker came inside and told him that someone was driving his car. They got into the co-workers car and followed him to the Arden Apartments. The driver of the stolen car got out and walked away from the car but left it at the apartment.

Police asked if he knew anything about this and he confessed to it as well. Lucero told police that he was walking through the Pizza Hut parking lot when he saw the 2017 Toyota Yaris running with no one inside the car. He jumped in the car and drove to the Arden Ridge apartments. He then noticed the owner of the car following him so he left the car at the apartments.

Lucero has been indicted for aggravated robbery, possession of a controlled substance, burglary of a building, and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. He is currently in the Tom Green County Jail on a $28,642 bond.

How did police determine Lucero was the man who robbed Allsup's? It was a combination of the clothing they found in his apartment matching the suspect seen on video and his general history of theft during this timeframe.
