SAPD: Robbery in Progress Call Turns Out to be Nerds Having Fun

SAN ANGELO, TX -- San Angelo Police Officers responded in force to a serious call of a robbery in progress at Southwest Plaza Tuesday evening only to find employees of Game XChange having a little late afternoon fun.

San Angelo Police Department Public Information Officer Tracy Piatt-Fox said at the scene that one employee of the gaming store pointed a laser scanner at another employee who then put their hands up and walked to the back of the store.  Apparently a customer saw the good-natured tom foolery and mistook it for a robbery and called police.

Several SAPD units arrived almost immediately and surrounded the store.

Officers quickly ascertained there was no robbery; just employees having a little fun.   No weapon was involved and no one was hurt.

Piatt-Fox said there were some embarrassed employees at the store.

Piatt-Fox said that while Tuesday's call was a false alarm, the SAPD encourages citizens to call the police anytime they see anything that seems threatening or out of the ordinary.

Better safe than sorry!
