Parents Arrested After Allegedly Choking Autistic Son with a Bungee Cord

ABILENE, TX – A mother and father of an autistic boy were arrested on Sunday after allegedly choking the child with a bungee cord.

On April 13, Abilene Police Department officers arrested Danielle, 38, and Jimmy Tankersley, 41, after multiple witnesses told them that they saw the Tankersleys choking their autistic son.

Police say the witnesses saw the 12-year-old attempting to get his ball from the top of a car when his mother slapped him and tied him up with a bungee cord. He was placed on the porch and was told if he moved from the porch she would choke him with the cord.

According to KRBC, the boy then stood up and the mom began choking the boy with the cord until he was blue in the face. This is when the the boys 19-year-old brother pushed the mother off of the child in an attempt to stop the assault.

Jimmy Tankersley then slapped the brother and slammed him through a wall. Police say the father told multiple witness to lie to the police about what had happened that afternoon.

The Tankersleys were charged with injury to a child and Jimmy was charged with an additional assault charge.
