Man Shoots Friend in Back While Playing with Revolver in Back Seat

 

COLORADO CITY, TX -- Police arrest a man after he shot his friend in the back, dumped the body in the street, and fled the scene on Saturday. 

On April 13, the Colorado City Police Department responded to a shooting. When they arrived they found 21-year-old Jashawn Dameron of Chicago in the street with an apparent gunshot wound to the back. 

Dameron was taken to the Mitchell County Hospital where he was pronounced dead. 

Police later met with with 19-year-old Devante Emerson after he turned himself in. Emerson told police that he had been behind the passenger seat "mishandling a revolver" when the gun went off and shot Dameron in the back. 

According to KTXS, Emerson and Dameron were riding around with friends when it happened. Once they knew that the Dameron was shot they dumped the body outside of the car and fled the scene.

Dameron turned 21 on that day and according to family members he was expecting a baby boy. 

Emerson has been charged with manslaughter.
