Accused San Angelo Murderer Bailed Out of Jail

SAN ANGELO, TX -- The San Angelo suspect accused of shooting a man to death in the backyard of a northwest San Angelo residence Tuesday has bonded out of jail.

According to jail records, Gabriel James Ortiz posted $250,000 bail Thursday afternoon and was released from the Tom Green County Jail.

Records indicate Concho Bail Bonds posted his bail.  Ortiz had to come up with $25,000 or ten percent of his bail amount.

Ortiz is charged with murder in the shooting death of Ernesto Moreno Hernandez, 28, who was shot and killed around 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

The affidavit accuses Ortiz of entering the back yard of the house at 2013 Bailey St. and shooting Hernandez four times. A detective on the scene said "he observed two torso wounds and wounds to the head," according to the affidavit.

A witness heard a gunshot then entered the alley behind Bailey. After hearing another shot, the witness heard someone "say something to the effect of, don't do it" before a Hispanic man, later identified as Ortiz, fired two more shots "at a downward angle." The witness moved closed and found a victim lying on the ground at the angle in which he saw the gunshots fired.

This was the first of two shootings in San Angelo this week that left three men dead.

This is a developing story.
