SAN ANGELO, TX -- A San Angelo man charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon was arraigned in District Court by Judge Brad Goodwin Tuesday and is set to face a jury Monday.
29-year-old Joaquin Munoz is accused of wielding an axe during an attack on his brother's mother-in-law. Court documents allege Munoz yelled, "I am going to kill you b---h!" "You are going to die!" "I am going to kill you b---h!"
The alleged attack took place at the victim's home on 26th Street in San Angelo on Jan. 29, 2018.
The victim told police Munoz took the axe and chopped into her house at least two times and raised the axe up as he was yelling at her.
The victim provided a two page written statement to police.
After his arraignment, Judge Goodwin asked how he pleaded. Munoz said, "Not Guilty."
Munoz has been in jail since his arrest.
His jury trial is set to begin Monday, March 18.
The second degree felony is punishable by two to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
Munoz has no prior felony convictions and is eligible for probation.
