Man Arrested After DPS Operation Leads to Pot Discovery

SAN ANGELO, TX – The Department of Public Safety arrested a man after a surveillance operation led to the discovery of one pound of marijuana on Friday.

Andrew Ruiz, 27, was at a house on the 2600 block of Lakeside Ave. Texas Highway Patrol Troopers were conducting a surveillance operation when they saw Ruiz leave the residence in a Chevrolet truck.

While Ruiz was driving, he made a minor traffic violation that led to the troopers pulling him over. Ruiz didn't stop and instead pulled into his residence on Parker St.

DPS then made contact with Ruiz and discovered his license had been suspended.

At the residence they could smell a strong smell of marijuana. Ruiz then admitted that the house on Lakeside had a large amount of marijuana.

The troopers went back to the Lakeside house to find Ruiz's wife. She consented to a search and troopers found approximately one pound of marijuana.

Ruiz was charged with possession of marijuana in an amount of more than 4 ounces but less than 5 pounds.
