Police Find Meth and Illegal Immigrants in Traffic Stop Near Abilene

 

TYE, TX – Seven people are in custody after a traffic stop led to the discovery of five illegal immigrants and 40 grams of meth near Abilene on Thursday.

According to information from the Tye Police Department, around 11 p.m. an officer conducted a traffic stop on a Ford pickup. As the officer approached the vehicle, he could see five people in the bed of the truck covered in blankets.

Inside the vehicle was a male driver, a female passenger, and a juvenile. According to the TPD Facebook, the officer found out the occupants in the bed of the truck were illegal immigrants. Four of them were male and the other was a female.

A K-9 unit was called in to search the vehicle. Police say they found 40.21 grams of methamphetamine and 15 meth pipes.

The male and female in the vehicle in the cab were arrested and charged with possession and distribution of a controlled substance and child endangerment. The illegal immigrants were turned over to the Border Patrol. The female immigrant was taken to the hospital for treatment on injuries she had suffered while crossing the border. She will be released back to border patrol after being treated.

The Taylor County Sheriff's Office and the Abilene Police Department also assisted in this arrest.
