Report: Hummingbird Charged for Having Sex with Lake View Student in 2017

SAN ANGELO, TX-- A second inappropriate relationship charge has been filed against former Lake View and Reagan County coach Matthew Hummingbird, 26.

The Big Lake Wildcat reports that Texas Rangers charged Hummingbird for having sex with a Lake View student at a San Angelo hotel in 2017.

Hummingbird was arrested and charged with an inappropriate relationship with a 17-year-old Reagan County High School Student. Hummingbird "gave a full confession" for the first charge.

The affidavit said Hummingbird admitted to having sex with a Lake View High School student on New Years in 2017 after Reagan County officials told him of the statutory warnings. Jason McGhee, Captain of the Reagan County Sheriff's Office, then notified the Philip Kemp with the Texas Rangers.

According to the affidavit, on Oct. 5, Texas Rangers interviewed the student in Kingsville, Texas, where she currently lives. The student confirmed the incident to the Rangers.

At the time of the incident, Hummingbird, a graduate of Lake View and Angelo State University, was an assistant coach for the Maiden basketball team.

We reached out to San Angelo ISD for comments. As of 9:42 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 11, they had not returned our request.
