Judge Abruptly Halts Delacruz Capital Murder Trial Proceedings Again

SAN ANGELO, TX -- District Judge Ben Woodward halted testimony in the capital murder trial of Isidro Delacruz a second time Tuesday morning sending jurors home without explanation until 8:45 a.m. Wednesday.

Delacruz was present with his attorneys and District Allison Palmer was in the courtroom with witnesses waiting in a room across the hall.  Judge Woodward told the jury that sometimes circumstances are beyond everyone’s control and that they were dismissed until Wednesday morning.

Palmer was scheduled to call the state’s final witnesses and present its last evidence and rest today.  Defense attorneys Will Boyles and Rob Cowie were set to begin the defense’s case and try to finish by Friday.

Judge Woodward told jurors they would still try to finish testimony this week but not to make any plans for early next week.

The same jury convicted Isidro Delacruz of capital murder on March 29.  The range of punishment for capital murder is life in prison without parole or death by lethal injection.

Defense lawyers looking for more money! He's already been found guilty of capital murder of that young child, what difference will more testimony make? He deserves the needle and no amount of delays should prevent that. He'll more than likely still be sitting on death row 20 yrs from now, just to make sure his rights weren't violated.
