Midland Authorities Find Second Set of Remains

MIDLAND, TX -- Midland County Sheriff Gary Painter says authorities searching a pit have found a second set of human remains.

According to reports,  the remains were found in a second pit about 14 feet below the surface in rural Midland County southwest of Midland.  A news release says District Attorney Laura Nodolf arrived on the scene to assist in the removal of the remains and stayed in contact with the forensic anthropologist at the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office for assistance in the proper removal of the skeletal remains.

The remains may be related to a case from 2015 involving two missing teenagers.

The release indicates there is enough soft tissue to extract DNA from the remains.  As we reported last week investigators received some information about bodies buried in a pit in Midland County. Officials called a search and rescue K-9 Team out of Stephenville. Three dogs gave a positive notification on a 20x30x15 pit full of fill dirt and trash.

The road and bridge department brought a backhoe to the scene to help with the search. The Investigators and the Texas Rangers searched the dirt removed from the pit. A larger piece of equipment was brought in and they dug between 8 and 10 feet. They found a skeletal foot and the scene is now a crime scene for a homicide.

We will update this ongoing story as information becomes available.
