Abilene Suspect Who Pointed Rifle at Cops Arrested.

ABILENE, TX-- UPDATE: Willie Gray was arrested on Wednesday night, ending the day long manhunt that started when Gray pointed a rifle at an Abilene Police Officer. Gray has been charged with aggravated assault against a peace officer. His bail is set at $200,000.

According to Abilene Police, a suspect pointed an assault rifle at an officer.

That suspect has been identified as Willie Gray, 30.

In an interview with KTXS, Abilene Police Chief Stan Standrige said Gray pointed the rifle at the officer "with the intent of murdering" the officer.

APD believes the rifle was stolen in a Tuesday burglary in which seven guns were stolen, including an AR-15, from a south Abilene residence.

Police responded to two separate shots fired calls later Tuesday night after the burglary, but did not find the suspect. Several people went into custody for questioning, however, and the police seized a car that had some of the guns and ammo from the Woodhaven burglary.

A 911 call came in Wednesday morning of a black male carrying an assault rifle at North 14th and Lulius streets.

Gray then pointed a .223 caliber assault rifle at an officer responding to the call, according to Standridge. Gray took off running as the officer took cover behind his Tahoe.

A perimeter was set up and police used a K-9 officer to scour the area. A house-to-house search was conducted by police, but Gray was nowhere to found. He is considered armed and dangerous, according to Chief Standridge.

The incident put Martinez Elementary School on "high alert" and Texas Leadership Charter Academy of Abilene on lockdown.
