Girlfriend Does Not Realize that Boyfriend Shot Her

SAN ANGELO, TEXAS – On the same morning the San Angelo Police Department (SAPD) were investigating a shooting of a 15-year-old male, the Sheriff's Department was investigating an Accidental Shooting Injury incident.

In the late hours of Wednesday evening, Shannon Medical Center reached out to San Angelo’s Dispatch to report a shooting victim. Dispatch then contacted Officer Jason Corbell with the Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office Thursday morning  at 12:03 a.m., advising him of a female who had been shot while driving in a vehicle.

LIVE! received an incident report that stated that the shooting occurred on Texas Highway 208, just north of Farm to Market Road 2105. According to the incident report, Felipe Garcia and his girlfriend Olga Perez were on their way to Robert Lee, Texas, when Felipe said “he was trying to remove his pistol from the center console to put it on his hip.” Filipe continued to say that as he was retrieving his pistol, “the pistol went off and a bullet struck Olga on her hip.” However, Felipe stated he “did not know Olga was shot, until he exited his vehicle and checked on her,” a short time later.

In a separate questioning, conducted by Deputy Ian Rook, Olga Perez explained that “she was sitting in the front passenger seat of Felipe’s vehicle” when she “heard a loud bang [and] could smell gun powder.” Perez added that she only realized  “she had been shot after Felipe checked on her.” Olga proceeded to tell Deputy Rook that Garcia was moving his gun at the time of the shooting.

According to Officer Corbell, Felipe told him that the gun was a .45 caliber 1911 style type pistol. As Garcia was explaining the details to Officer Corbell, Garcia began crying stating that he “did not know how [the shooting] happened [because] he usually stores his pistol with the hammer down while it is in his console.”

Tom Green County Criminal Investigation Division Detective Sergeant Billy Fiverash and Officer Corbell processed Felipe Garcia’s car, a silver Dodge pickup. Upon further investigation, Officer Corbell observed, “a hole in the center console, on the passenger side … dried pooled coagulated blood in the front passenger seat … [and] coagulated blood on the back passenger floor mat.” Officer Corbell and Sgt. Fiverash both located the pistol Garcia claimed had been the gun that shot his girlfriend.

Officers collected evidence from the scene and collected DNA from Garcia.

This incident is currently under investigation. LIVE! will provide an update should more information become available.

How do you not realize nearly half an inch of lead just flew through your hip? You'd think it would itch or something?

This carries quite a punch. I assume this was a flesh wound. Both are fortunate it was so minor. I would suggest that he receive and observe better firearm training.

I would suggest that fool never be allowed to touch another firearm again. He clearly lacks the wit to prevent his doing stupid things with weapons.
