Franco's Cafe Burglarized Even While Cooks Were Prepping Breakfast

Franco’s Café was burglarized in Thursday’s wee-early morning hours as the kitchen staff was prepping for the morning breakfast crowd.

Franco’s Café, 2218 Martin Luther King Drive, is a popular early morning breakfast stop for huevos rancheros, menudo, and breakfast burritos for many San Angeloans. It earns one of the highest star ratings of any local restaurant, 4.6 of 5 stars on Google Local.

According to San Angelo Police Chief Tim Vasquez, the cooks heard a window crash just after 5 a.m. Thursday morning. When they ran out of the back into the front of the eatery to see what had happened, they noticed that a front window into the dining area was broken and the cash register was missing.

Investigating further, some of the Franco’s staff ran out into the parking lot. There, they witnessed a male loading the cash register into a white vehicle and fleeing the scene.

According to Vasquez, the cash register’s cash drawer had not yet been populated with cash for the early morning breakfast rush. It was empty.

The 911 call for service happened at 5:27 a.m. according to police logs.

By this evening, Franco’s had replaced the broken window and business was brisk as always.

Be on the lookout for a man with an empty cash register.

no money, that is a laugh... do have a gun ready and buy a german sheperd for when you are not home... we need to weed out these idiots
The entire area of N. Chadbourne and MLK is crawling with these people after dark. They'll attempt to take anything that isn't nailed down. Many of you who live in that vicinity may know exactly what I'm talking about. People riding bikes in and out of alleys or casually strolling along the side of the road carrying backpacks at 3 a.m. -- they're certainly not on their way to work. LEO's may take an interest in the late night backpackers. I have it on good authority that many of these folks are delivering "ingredients" to some of the local "chefs" (if you know what I mean).
Why don't you sit back, take a deep breath, keep your opinions to yourself. You are a piece of work!!!!!!

Please take note of the cute little smiley face at the end of his oilfield comment. I am almost certain he was joking. Maybe you should sit back, take a deep breath, and try to find some humor in life. Geez.
It was the perfect crime, meticulously planned by an international league of extraordinary criminal masterminds. Their timing had to be exact, with just a 20 second window of opportunity between when breakfast cooks start their first batch of chorizo con juevo and the arrival of early morning regulars. The gang pulled off the heist with perfect precision, and escaped with their prize before anyone had a chance to react. Safely aboard their private jet bound for Caracas, the master thieves congratulated themselves. They uncorked bottles of Dom and lit Cuban cigars hand-rolled by Fidel himself. Their safecracker recruit from the Hamburg underworld was the best in the business. With the steady hands of a brain surgeon, he manipulated the cash register's release mechanism until finally it clicked. The drawer slid open with a satisfying ding. The joy and frivolity was instantly sucked out of the pressurized cabin. It was the perfect plan, brilliantly conceived and masterfully executed. Every detail had been accounted for and every contingency considered. Only now was the fatal flaw in their übercaper revealed. With cigars dangling and dropping from their slack-jawed mugs, the elite crew of professional criminals stared unbelieving at the empty cash drawer.
