Update 1:20 p.m.
Sometime before noon, a parent and child noticed something floating in the river. It appeared to be a plastic package. The parent went to the fire department across the street and reported the strange object. Due to the nature of the event, the FD called the San Angelo Police Dept. The SAPD arrived and waited for the "package" to float closer to the shore. Initial discovery indicated that the object was a large, bloated and smelly and dead beaver wrapped in garbage. "I had to get out of there, the smell was so bad," said John Basquez, our reporter on the scene.
SAPD notified animal control and the "package" was taken to be disposed.
