San Angelo Man Killed in Fatal 18-wheeler Head-on Crash Near Bronte

 

BRONTE, TX – One San Angelo man was killed and another was seriously injured in an 18-wheeler crash on U.S. 277 south of Bronte Wednesday. 

According to information from the Texas Department of Public Safety, the preliminary investigation indicates one truck-tractor, towing a semitrailer, was traveling southbound on U.S. 277 and another  truck-tractor, towing a semitrailer, was traveling northbound on US 277. A thunderstorm had recently passed through and left water on the roadway. The first 18-wheeler hydroplaned, left its lane, and collided head-on with the other 18-wheeler.

DPS investigators say 52-year-old Benito Garcia of San Angelo was pronounced dead at the scene by Coke County Justice of the Peace Russell Johnson.

The driver of the first vehicle, 35-year-old Jaime Alejandro Gonzalez was transported to Shannon Medical Center with unknown incapacitating injuries.

The crash is still under investigation.
