Father Fleeing from Police Crashes into Tree Killing Himself and 14-Year-Old Daughter

KERRVILLE, TX -- A father and his 14-year-old daughter died early Friday morning after crashing into a tree while attempting to evade police.

According to the Hill Country Community Journal, on November 1, at around 2:00 a.m., an officer, with the Kerrville Police Department, was patrolling the Junction Highway and spotted a Dodge pickup traveling at a high rate of speed.

The officer followed the vehicle and observed that the truck was traveling nearly 70 mph in a 45 mph zone. This is when the officer turned on his lights and attempted to pull the driver over.

The driver did not pull over, but instead increased his speed to over 100 mph. Police say that the driver's top speed was clocked at 107 mph.

After the truck took off, police lost sight of it but later found the truck off of the side of the roadway, crashed into a tree.

The driver, Anthony Vargas, and his 14-year-old daughter were pronounced dead at the scene.
