18-Wheeler Flips in Between Two Bridges After Driver Falls Asleep

MERKEL, TX -- A 21-year-old fell asleep and flipped his 18-wheeler on I-20 this morning.

According to KTXS, on August 13 the Merkel and Tye police department were dispatched to the the intersection of FM 1235 and I-20 for the report of a flipped 18-wheeler.

When they arrived they found the 18-wheeler upside down in between two bridges.

The driver, Klayton Isbell, 21, had minor injuries and told police that while he was driving he had fallen asleep at the wheel. When he woke up he was startled so he over corrected and rolled the truck.

After the truck rolled it slid down into the embankment.

This area is temporarily closed.

Due to the amount of diesel that was spilled, a hazmat company from Eastland is being brought in to clean up the spill and TXDOT is inspecting the bridge.
