Truck Crash Sends 1,000s of Gallons of Crude Oil into Formerly Pristine Red Creek

SAN ANGELO, TX — A truck hauling about 180 barrels of crude oil made quite a mess of Red Creek late Saturday morning.

According to our reporter at the scene, a large truck with a trailer hauling crude oil was traveling along SH 208 crossing the bridge across Red Creek when the driver lost control, spilling it’s cargo into the water below.

Texas DPS is investigating the crash that involved only one vehicle.

WATCH:

This crash carries with it the additional dynamic of how to clean up the environmental damage to the otherwise pristine creek. That is, 180 barrels equals approximately 7,560 gallons of crude oil that was emptied into the creek and around the banks of the waterway. Our reporter said there was not much water flowing in the creek, regardless.

The driver was transported to Shannon Medical Center for a checkup. His condition is officially unknown, but authorities at the scene did not indicate he was badly injured.
