San Angelo Truck Driver Killed in Permian Basin Head-on Crash

 

RANKIN, TX -- A San Angelo man was killed in an 18-wheeler crash in Upton County north of Rankin Monday.  

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, 47-year-old Christopher Castro was driving his 18-wheeler northbound on SH 349. 

It was raining and there was water standing on the roadway. 

Castro was driving at an unsafe speed for the road conditions.  His rig jackknifed an slid into the southbound lane. 

His tractor trailer crashed into another 18-wheeler headed southbound according to NewsWest9

Castro was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The driver and passenger in the other 18-wheeler sustained non life-threatening injuries and were transported to the Rankin County Hospital.
