Blinded by the Light, Honda Driver Nearly Lands in Concho River

SAN ANGELO, TX — A driver of a 2012 Honda Accord ran off the road this morning and almost went for a cold swim if not for the tree trunk that stopped her.

According to the San Angelo police, the driver was eastbound on the access road for Loop 306. At the U-turn that goes underneath the highway, just prior to the river, she didn’t see the turn, and drove straight ahead, off road. She hit a curb, a sign, traveled up an embankment and slammed into a tree on the river bank.

Police said she wasn’t injured and no other vehicles or people were involved.

Location of the crash:

Responding to the crash that was called in just after 7:30 a.m. were the police, a water rescue crew from the San Angelo Fire Department, and EMS.

Police did not indicate if there were going to be citations. Police did say the driver was unfamiliar with the road and the low, blinding morning sun was a major factor.

In other words, she was blinded by the light.
