DPS Identifies Victims in Cross Plains Crash the Day After Christmas

 

CROSS PLAINS, TX — Two San Angelo residents and two residents of Forney with ties to San Angelo were identified as the victims in the Dec. 26 crash north of Cross Plains on SH 206. In all, four died and eight were injured in the crash.

According to the Texas DPS, James Everette Hurley, 37, of San Angelo, was driving a Ford Transit Van southbound on SH 206 and was approaching the town of Cross Plains, 4.38 miles ahead. Meanwhile, Bryan Joseph Mikulik of Forney was northbound at the same point driving a 2013 Lexus GX 460.

DPS stated that Hurley’s van went out of control on the wet pavement and crossed into the northbound lane where the two vehicles collided head on.

Killed in the Lexus were the driver, Bryan Joseph Mikulik, 48, and his wife Debra Ann Mikulik, 52, also of Forney.

Their children, Olivia, 14, and Alexa, 15, were rushed to hospitals with incapacitating injuries. Olivia was transported to a Fort Worth hospital and is listed in critical condition.

In the Ford van, the driver, James Hurley was killed, as was one passenger, Joyce Jordan Collier, 67, of Brady.

Injured in the van were William Quinn Collier, 20, of San Angelo; Joshua Chase Collier, 19, of Voca; Grace Spurgin, 14; Emily Spurgin, 8; and Hayden Hermes, 11. All were taken to area hospitals and are currently listed in stable condition.

All who died were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, DPS reported. The crash happened Dec. 26, 2018 at 12:11 p.m. It was raining and the roadway was wet.

The Mikuliks were traveling back after spending Christmas in San Angelo/Wall with the extended family. "One of the Mikulik girls has major injuries and needs any prayers you can offer," stated Bridget Mikulik on a San Angelo LIVE! Facebook post. She said Bryan and Debra were her husband's aunt and uncle.
