4 Dead in Fatal Head-On Crash Reported North of Cross Plains

CROSS PLAINS, TX — If you’ve ever driven to Dallas/Fort Worth from San Angelo, you probably are familiar with the shorter route on the Coleman cutoff headed northeast from U.S. 67 through Coleman, Cross Plains, and intersecting I-20 in near Cisco on SH 206.

Yesterday, almost all members of a family were killed on SH 206, and reports are they were visiting family in San Angelo, headed home. The initial, though unofficial, crash reports are that the family’s vehicle hit a passenger van head-on right near the Callahan and Eastland County line north of Cross Plains.

According to KTXS, the crash happened at 12:55 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2018. The crash was so forceful that SH 206 was closed for hours. KTXS reported the road was still closed at 4:15 p.m. when they left the scene.

How the crash officially happened is information not yet released by the Texas DPS. Nor have the names of the victims been officially released. KTXS reported five victims, and one is still alive but hospitalized. We have been in contact with DPS and will update you as soon as we have the information.

Location of crash:

As many times as San Angeloans have driven this stretch of highway to and from DFW, this crash is a cold reminder to always be vigilant when driving.
