Football Player Suffers Serious Injury at Lake View Playoff Game

ABILENE, TX — A football player for San Angelo Lake View High School's opponent, Wichita Falls Hirschi High School, suffered a possible spinal cord injury with just seconds left in the first half at a playoff game in Abilene Saturday afternoon.

KTXS heard the call for paramedics over the radio while San Angelo LIVE! Sports Editor Sam Fowler saw the injury as it happened.

According to Fowler, Lake View, trailing 34-13 with less than 50 seconds left on the clock before halftime, conducted a running play. One of the backfield for Hirschi, #22 Defensive End Reggie Jackson, was in on the tackle. When the pile of players who tackled the Lake View runner got up, Jackson remained on he turf, face down and not moving.

Fowler, who has played Texas high school and college football, said the injury looked very serious. Jackson is a junior.

The 4A Division 1 Area playoff game was being held at Abilene’s Shotwell Stadium. The game started at 2 p.m.

Paramedics put a neck brace on Jackson and put him on a backboard as the game was suspended for about 10 minutes. KTXS reported that Jackson was transported to Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene.
