Toaster Catches Fire at City Hall, Prompting Evacuation

SAN ANGELO, TX-- Members of the San Angelo Fire Department responded to reports of a fire in the City Hall basement on Tuesday.

The first crew in the building received word that a toaster had caught fire, according to Captain Naylor of SAFD.

By the time crews arrived on scene, someone had already used a fire extinguisher to put out the fire, Capt. Naylor said.

The Fire Marshal's office is still investigating the cause of the toaster fire to determine if it was a malfunction or if "someone left something in there and forgot about it," Capt. Naylor told the media.

The fire was isolated to just the toaster in the break room.

Our reporter on scene estimated 25 people were evacuated from the basement.

Why are my tax dollars paying some employee to cook their breakfast while on the clock ? They should be eating that prior to clocking in and then can leave for lunch during their granted lunch hour.

Easy there Ding, folks are entitled to a break. Stuff happens & no one ever works solid for their entire shift. City employees don’t make squat, so give them a break.

Maybe, just maybe they were on an authorized break. The city has those as well.
