Vehicle Fire Blocks U.S. 67 Southwest of San Angelo

 

SAN ANGELO, TX — A vehicle fire on U.S. 67 southbound out of San Angelo, in the 7000 block, between Chappell Rd. and Twin Mountain Fence, has shut down the highway to and from Mertzon. The vehicle is in the northeast-bound side.

From reports on the radio, all occupants of the vehicle were able to evacuate.

Traffic going both ways is backed up about a quarter mile in either direction while Dove Creek VFD and the San Angelo Fire Department are extinguishing the fire.

The Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office issued a warning to motorists to avoid U.S. 67 just after 10 p.m. Tuesday night.

The vehicle was still on fire at 10:30 p.m. Active flames have been observed for about 30-45 minutes.

Update 10:45 p.m.

The Tom Green County Sheriff's Office stated the road is reopened.
