Man Escapes Serious Injury in Rolling Avalanche

SAN ANGELO, TX -- The driver of a Chevrolet Avalanche escaped serious injury Wednesday morning after rolling his vehicle between Mertzon and San Angelo on U.S. Hwy 67 in Irion County.

Irion County Sheriff’s Deputies, Irion County Volunteer Firefighters and DPS troopers responded to the crash.

According to Texas Department of Public Safety trooper Jonathan Casas, the driver was fatigued and veered off the road hitting a mailbox.  He became alert and over corrected crossing the highway into oncoming traffic.

The Avalanche then rolled and came to a stop on its side in the barrow ditch on the side of the road.  The driver was issued a citation for failure to maintain a single lane.
