Man Whose Leg was Severed in Boating Accident Identified

SAN ANGELO, TX-- Authorities have identified the man involved in a horrific boating accident on the Fourth of July.

Jeremy Armenta was celebrating America’s Independence Day with his friends and family when they were pulling through a no wake zone at the Middle Concho Park.

According to Texas Parks and Wildlife, Armenta and another friend were hanging their feet out of the boat when the engine revved to move in reverse. The force from the engine created enough suction to pull Armenta and his friend under the boat where a propeller made contact with and severed Armenta’s leg.

Texas Parks and Wildlife said Armenta went through surgery all Wednesday night and into Thursday. There is no official update to his condition.

Friends and family took to Facebook to share their thoughts and prayers for Armenta.[[{"fid":"42832","view_mode":"default","fields":{"format":"default","field_file_image_alt_text[und][0][value]":"(Facebook: Jeremy Armenta)","field_file_image_title_text[und][0][value]":false},"type":"media","field_deltas":{"1":{"format":"default","field_file_image_alt_text[und][0][value]":"(Facebook: Jeremy Armenta)","field_file_image_title_text[und][0][value]":false}},"attributes":{"alt":"(Facebook: Jeremy Armenta)","class":"media-element file-default","data-delta":"1"}}]]

My heart and prayers go out to Jeremy, his family, and the driver of the boat (who will carry the guilt of this accident forever) who doesn't need the judgement of people who were not even on the lake when the accident happened. May your recovery be quick, and may you all still remain friends amidst this terrible tragedy.

What a nice way Big Daddy starts the rants off with blame, complaints, and ridicule of the family and victim. How about a little compassion for the family and this poor guy who lost a leg? "I am sad for the victim," is the only inkling of human kindness mentioned...in a situation like this, I am saddest for Big Daddy.

Having spent a great deal of my life on and around boats, I have learned of and suffered the consequences of just how dangerous it can be. If you really want some excellent entertainment that costs virtually nothing, go to the most crowded boat ramp on Nasworthy about an hour or two before dark during a summer holiday. You're guaranteed to see stupidity on a grand scale. It's easily forgotten after a few beers that the power plant for your vessel is a meat grinder and each year dozens suffer serious injury and death. Fortunately, TPWD now requires boater safety courses for all boaters born after August 1993. I'm not sure whether it was required of these folks or not, but a refresher course may have prevented this tragedy.

Big Daddy advises that he has been boating his whole life, therefore is competent nautically speaking. However, he refers to Lake Nasworthy as "Lake Nasty". He also calls a certain buoyed off area a "Low Wake" area. Sir, those areas are clearly marked with a white buoy with an orange circle in the middle of it are called "No Wake" areas and displayed as such.

Also, the person who is in charge of operating the boat is called the Captain, not the Commander. If you choose to be negative, at least be knowledgeable.
