Bicyclist Duels with Buick and Buick Wins

SAN ANGELO, TX — A Buick ran over a bicyclist at 11th St. and N. Chadbourne St. Wednesday afternoon just after 3 p.m.

According to the San Angelo police, the Buick was eastbound on 11th St. and about to turn right, or south, onto Chadbourne when the bicyclist was riding north on the sidewalk along the southbound lanes of Chadbourne. In other words, against the flow of traffic. The bike was a BMX dirt bike. Police said the rider, a male in his 20s, was riding with a girl on her own similar bike.

The San Angelo City Council passed an ordinance some years ago that forbids bicycles from using the city sidewalks. In addition, according to police, if the bicyclist was not on the sidewalk, but riding in the roadway, then the bicyclist by law must drive with the flow of traffic.

The bicyclist was rushed to Shannon Medical Center with unknown injuries. Police said they will check on the status of the rider this afternoon.

In the meantime, the driver of the Buick was not given a citation. As for the bicyclist? “The investigation is ongoing,” police said.

The girl riding the BMX was not injured.

Citations not yet issued?!?!?

Seems a slam dunk to us non-officials.

'Nuff said.

Bicycles are always given a pass. Absolutely none of them follow traffic laws. No Citations
