Sand Truck Slides on Slick Road and Crashes on U.S. 87 South

SAN ANGELO, TX -- An 18-wheeler driver lost control on a slick roadway just after 6 a.m. this morning skidding into the median on U.S. 87 South near Roberts road sending one passenger to the hospital.

According to Department of Public Safety Trooper Jason McMillan the sand hauler was traveling from the Odessa area to the sand mines at Voca in McCullough County.

McMillan says the driver said he was using his cruise control in the wet and slick conditions and lost control.  The truck was empty and slid into the median and turned on its side.  A passenger in the sleeper was transported to a San Angelo hospital.

Trooper McMillan said they will do a truck inspection because there is some wear on some of the tires and there is some question if all the brakes were working.  Warnings and citations may be issued after the truck inspection.
