Quemado Man Dies in Rollover Crash Near Menard

MENARD, TX — A Quemado man died in a single-vehicle crash near Menard Wednesday morning.

According to the Texas DPS, Teofilo Lopez Colon, 75, of Quemado was traveling east in a 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup on FM 864. He was just one mile east of U.S. 190. As Colon approached a sharp left curve in the roadway, DPS stated he was driving too fast to safely negotiate the turn. His Dodge truck lost traction and went into a side skid, sliding across the roadway and crashed into the barrow ditch on the westbound side then rolled.

Justice of the Peace Robert Hernandez pronounced Colon dead at the scene. The single passenger, Hortencia Lopez, 72, also of Quemado, suffered what DPS described as minor injuries.

DPS reported that the weather was clear and the roadway dry. The crash happened Wednesday morning just before 10 a.m.
