Bicyclist Injured After SUV Attempts to Exit H-E-B's Parking Lot

SAN ANGELO, TX — Shortly after 3:30 p.m. today, a white 2013 Ford Explorer attempted to make a right hand turn from the HEB parking lot onto Ave N, when the car collided with a nearby bicyclist headed towards the Sherwood Way intersection.

San Angelo police officers and members of the San Angelo Fire Department were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, the first responders found the bicyclist in the roadway.  After assessing the scene, fire medics treated the 30-year-old bike rider for non-incapacitating injuries.

The driver of the SUV and a 5-year-old male passenger were not injured in the crash.

According to Tracy Gonzalez, Public Information Officer for San Angelo's Police Department, the driver of the white SUV offered a ride to the injured bicyclist.

As for right now, it is too soon for police officers to issue a citation, however, should one occur, it may be for failure to yield right of way.

Sounds like the bicycle was riding heading towards traffic. I believe bikes are supposed to ride with traffic, not against.
