11-year-old Juvenile Sent to Hospital After Morning Rollover Accident

SAN ANGELO, TX — At 11a.m. this morning, San Angelo first responders were dispatched to a roll over accident at the intersection of N. Bryant and 23rd Street.

Officer Loudermilk with the San Angelo Police Department (SAPD) stated that based on eye-witness accounts and security camera footage, a white Chevy was traveling northbound on Bryant when it attempted to make a left turn on a green light across Bryant. At the same time, a queue of cars were lined up in the southbound lane waiting to go. As the Chevy began to turn, the first car in the queue, a Volkswagen Jetta, began to drive. The Jetta then struck the Chevy on the right passenger side.

The impact caused the Chevy to flip and roll on its side before coming to a rest inches away from a nearby traffic light pole.

The Chevy had two occupants, a driver and an 11-year-old juvenile. The 11-year-old was transported to Shannon with an injury to the leg. The driver of the Jetta was also transported to Shannon for non-incapacitating injuries.

The driver of the Chevy who had minor injuries was issued a citation for Failure to Yield Right of Way: Left Turn.

The southbound lanes of N. Bryant have been blocked off. Loudermillk stated that police officers have blocked off the lanes as far back as 26th street due to a fuel leak from the Chevy. Please avoid the area until the accident can be cleared.
