DPS Releases Name of Dead Motorcyclist in Saturday's Crash on Knickerbocker Road

SAN ANGELO, TX — The Texas DPS released the preliminary report on the two-motorcycle crash on Knickerbocker Road towards Dove Creek Sunday. In the report the crash victims are named, but the investigators are continuing their efforts to find out why the crash occurred.

Curtis Hardy, 58, of San Angelo was riding his 2000 Harley Davidson motorcycle along with Audrey Roe, 56, driving a 2004 Harley. Both were traveling west on Knickerbocker, DPS reported. Hardy drove his Harley into the south barrow ditch for an unknown reason. Then, he struck a dirt embankment and traveled into a field and crashed.

As a result of his injuries, Justice of the Peace Judge Fred Buck pronounced Hardy dead at the scene.

Meanwhile, Roe lost control of her Harley, DPS reported. She overturned on the roadway near where Hardy drove into the barrow ditch. As a result of Roe’s injuries, she was airlifted to Shannon Medical Center on the Airmed 1 helicopter ambulance. DPS reported she remains hospitalized.

The DPS report did not indicate the two motorcycles ran into each other.

Leading the crash investigation is Trooper Jaron Yarbrough. Trooper Billy Pierce is assisting.

DPS reported the speed limit was 55 mph; the weather was clear, and the roadway dry. The crash happened six miles southwest of San Angelo on Knickerbocker Road beyond the levee and bridge over the equalization channel.

The reports are she crashed in the road near where he went off. That's a pretty straight stretch so I'm not sure what happened to him but perhaps she saw him go into the ditch then panic braked and lost control. Of course it could have been deer or other wildlife they were trying to avoid. Sadly right now only one person knows what happened.
