Avenue L and Bryant Traffic Diverted After Crash

SAN ANGELO, TX - At this time, San Angelo Police are asking drivers to avoid the area of Avenue L and Bryant Blvd. while they clear a major crash in the area.

Just before 1 p.m., emergency responders dispatched to the area for a crash involving a silver Chrysler PT Cruiser and a silver BMW.

Currently, officials have closed down the northbound far right lane on Bryant, and westbound lanes on Avenue L as they clear the wreckage and a spill.

We will provide more details when available.

Update @ 1:52 p.m.

Officer Brian Bylsma, with SAPD's Traffic Division, said he was dispatched to Bryant Blvd. and Avenue L for an unknown motor vehicle crash. Upon arrival, he discovered three vehicles were involved.

The driver of a 2008 Chrysler PT Cruiser said she was heading southbound and attempting to make a left turn onto Avenue L. She said she had a green light, made her turn, and collided with a 2002 BMW going northbound on Bryant Blvd. That driver said he was northbound in the middle lane, saw her coming, tried getting into the right lane, but could not avoid the collision.

"He ended up going off the road and [hitting] one of the traffic signal poles," said Officer Bylsma. "He is complaining of injuries to his shoulder, which is more than likely because of his seatbelt. He's been transported to the hospital by private vehicle."

After the PT Cruiser collided with the BMW, it collided with a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado stopped at a red light on Avenue L in the left lane. That driver was not injured.

Bylsma said all witness and driver testimony is consistent in that the driver of the Chrysler made a left turn on a green light, but she failed to yield the right of way to the BMW and was issued a citation as a result.
